Visual Impact academy represents the training focus of Visual Impact SA.
The Visual Impact Group is an international company, and has been in South Africa for 18 years during this time it has developed an incredible technological resource both in people and in equipment. Visual Impact for example did the first HD feature in Africa and the 3rd HD feature in the world called ‘Promised Land’.
Visual Impact SA has proved its capacity to facilitate world-class quality projects and due to our participation & knowledge within the Industry, we have also been able to offer specialized training especially in HD.
According to James Middleton of the HD Hub, HD provides a lot of format options and frame rates, however the correct choices must be made when shooting to tie in with post production, it’s great to shoot at a particular frame rate on set but this may bring difficulties when editing at a later stage. Training on this subject is therefore very important and will certainly have a direct result on any HD productions budgets bottom line”.
Recognizing the need for this specialized training and after extensive research and consultation with our various stake holders, clients and very importantly the Cape Film Commission we decided to formalize our training and embark on starting the VISUAL IMPACT ACADEMY. The Cape Film Commission has lent its support to the Visual Impact Academy by stating how important it is that newcomers to the industry are HD ready – given that we are less than two years away from the 2010 FIFA world cup – this is very important to us, says Bianca Mpahlaza of the CFC.
Paul Lensen who has experience in both training and video production has been brought onboard to co-ordinate this new initiative. “Being able to formalize the training already offered by Visual Impact through a Visual Impact Academy is very exciting as it affords us the opportunity”, says Paul. “To draw on whole range of expertise and subject specialists from within the Visual Impact Company both locally and internationally makes how we are able offer our courses unique. We have the state of the art equipment, subject experts and excellent facilities”. Marius van Straaten, MD of Visual Impact shares these sentiments. “We have a fully fledged broadcast workshop under the guidance of head engineer, Gordon de Beer. A Rental division with latest HD equipment under the expert eye of Mogamat Arend and a sound proof studio space for practical shoots and demonstrations – all under one roof – this makes training sense. These combined factors enables Visual Impact academy to provide relevant and in demand skills to learners. And this really is good news for anyone wanting to embark in a career which is becoming more technologically advanced as HD becomes the format of choice.
