Visual Impact | Broadcast Training | South Africa

Recognizing the need for this specialized training and after extensive research and consultation with our various stake holders, clients and very importantly the Cape Film Commission we decided to formalize our training and embark on starting the VISUAL IMPACT  ACADEMY.

The Cape Film Commission and MICTS seta has lent its support to the Visual Impact Academy from the beginning by stating how important it is that newcomers to the industry are competent to be able to enter the film industry through a number of entrance points.

Visual Impact Academy therefore represents the training focus of Visual Impact SA.

The Visual Impact Group is an international company, and has been in South Africa for 18 years. During this time it has developed an incredible technological resource both in people and in equipment. Visual Impact for example did the first HD feature in Africa and the 3rd HD feature in the world called ‘Promised Land’. Visual Impact SA has proved its capacity to facilitate world-class quality projects and due to our participation & knowledge within the Industry, we have also been able to offer specialized training especially in HD.

Visual Impact had proven track record of running industry related master classes in High Definition film making, was registered with the then MAPPP seta as well as having the necessary resources and expertise to offer a this specialist type course.

The course was based upon what would be required in order to assist crews coming in from abroad (and to lesser degree local crews too).

Learners who attend the courses will be tested to ensure competency. A certificate of competency will be issued to those who pass the short practical test. The courses were presented by experienced lecturers from the VI academy. Course material, HD equipment, facilities as well as tow field trips were provided by Visual Impact Academy to all learners who participated.

In total 8 successful “Boot Camps” were run  in Cape Town and two in Johannesburg with the lead up to the 2010 world cup. 150 PDI students to successfully completed the course.

In addition, a special awards ceremony where Mr Laurence Mitchell and awarded our students their Certificates of competency.

VI Academy continues to offer specialist training to the industry and through its partnerships plans to grow this offering to include a number of exciting master classes in stereoscopic and high speed film making will retaining its focus on developing and training emerging talent.

Learners who graduate with distinction form the VI Academy are afforded the opportunity to participate Visual Impacts highly sort after Learner ship/Internship programme. The programme allows for the learners to put into practice what they have been taught on the various courses and to make valuable contacts with those already working in the film industry.
